The Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles opened early 2014 in the historic United Artists building in Downtown LA. Atelier Ace worked with local collective Commune Design to restore the United Artists building (dating from 1927) and theatre and to transform it into a hotel. For the guest rooms, Commune drew inspiration from Rudolf Schindler’s residence in West Hollywood. The upstairs rooftop space (featured in this post) was transformed into an indoor/outdoor lounge and pool inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House. Furnishings are a combination of Equipale-style and pieces by Joshua Tree sculptor Alma Allen. At the end of this post you can find some suggestions how to bring a bit of this style into your own home. More information about the hotel can be found on the Ace Hotel website.
