This inviting home is set along the scenic, meandering Helshoogte Mountain Pass that connects Stellenbosch and Franschhoek in South Africa. The owners Marli Lyon and Tino Nieuwoudt have a varied collection of furniture and art – much of which is by friends and Marli’s contemporaries on the art scene – which range from second-hand finds to new pieces. Where they have bought new, they’ve stuck to one rule: to buy from up-and-coming local designers only. From the outside, the two-bedroom, double-storey house appear modest in size but on the inside it’s surprisingly spacious. I love the brick wall in the kitchen / dining area which gives the space an industrial touch.
